New Braunfels was founded by German settlers in 1845 and never lost its heritage. It is famous for the spring-fed Comal River, tubing, Schlitterbahn, and Wurstfest, and for the Gruene Historic District, home to Gruene Hall, the oldest continually operating dance hall in Texas.
The city is served by two strong districts, Comal ISD and New Braunfels ISD, and it sits about halfway between San Antonio and Austin, which makes it a favorite for families with jobs in either city. Landa Park, the McKenna Children's Museum, and miles of river access keep the weekends full.
